Adult Women Scholarships
While the Hinsdale/Oak Brook Area Branch has been focused on providing scholarships to deserving women for many decades, in 2006 our focus began to actively include adult women. Interfacing with local civic groups including Bridge Communities, whose mission includes transitioning women to self-sufficiency by providing myriad support services, our Adult Women Scholarship committee moved forward.
Candidates for the Adult Women scholarships–women furthering their educations in order to support their families–must
- demonstrate a financial need
- maintain a stable living environment
- be committed to a two-year associate’s degree
- maintain a C average
Hinsdale/Oak Brook AAUW is proud to be supporting adult scholars, all enrolled at College of DuPage, who rely on our help for tuition, books, and supplies. These women are experiencing success in their personal lives and their academic endeavors. Success stories include a 2011 COD graduate who, with our help, went on to complete her BA degree at Governors State and is fully employed and supporting her three children.
Branch members are expected to donate to the Adult Women Scholarship fund so that we can continue or mission of support these and other very worthy women.
